Take One Media Airports

Southampton

As one of the fastest growing regional airports in Europe, Southampton has seen the numbers of travellers more than double in just three years from 790,000 in 2002 to 1.84m passengers in 2005.

As the leading ‘Fast Track’ airport for central southern England, Southampton has one terminal and serves 8 airlines to 33 destinations.  Its most popular route is to Edinburgh, and internationally, Paris and Amsterdam.

Passenger Profile

The airport has seen its passenger base increase rapidly as for many it is easier to access than the bigger airports, it is smaller so easier to move through and it offers a good choice of flights within England and Scotland.

Many of the passengers are UK residents - nearly 80% - and over one in three are travelling on business.  Very few charter flights operate from here - low-cost and scheduled make up most of the flights.

  • 35% on business
  • 58% low-cost, mostly on Flybe, and 39% scheduled
  • 65% are travelling alone and so will be receptive to reading material
